Our history

Viggo has been the local ground handler in the Netherlands for over 50 years

Viggo's history

From the Eindhoven ground handler to Local Hero at Schiphol

Viggo was founded in 1974 as a ground handler at Eindhoven Airport (EIN), then called ‘Handling Agency Welschap’. Over the years, EIN has grown into the second largest airport in the Netherlands with 39,000 flight movements (almost 7 million passengers) per year. Due to our strong cooperation with Eindhoven Airport and multi-skilled approach where we even perform airport tasks, security and PRM services, Viggo has always maintained a strong position.

Currently, Viggo provides ground handling services at EIN to major airlines, such as: Transavia, Wizz Air, TUI fly, Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress Airlines, Corendon Airlines and Aegean Airlines.

At the end of 2020, Viggo participated in the tender for Transavia's ground handling at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). Viggo won the tender and built a complete ground handling organisation at Schiphol. Transavia is a subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and has AMS as its main home base. In 2022, Air Europa joins Viggo at AMS, with flights to Madrid, allowing passengers to transfer to mainly Latin America.

In 2023, Icelandair, ITA Airways and Etihad Airways were added to Viggo's airline portfolio at AMS. Viggo has grown steadily over the years at both Eindhoven Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
